A road to self sufficiency

Community Voice Mail

Looking for work or housing without a phone?
Trying to maintain contact with doctors, teachers, daycare providers, family or anyone without a phone number?
This is the common condition of most homeless or phone less poor who are trying to stabilize financially and recover their self-sufficiency.

COMMUNITY VOICE MAIL is a groundbreaking transfer of technology for persons out of touch and out of the economic mainstream. It provides them with 24- hour access to telephone messages they might not otherwise receive from potential employers, landlords, case managers, and loved ones. CVM is the power tool that help people conduct their business with dignity, drive, and motivation.

From June 1999 To June 2007, the Philadelphia Community Voice Mail program served over 4060 homeless and phone less people in partnership with 89 agencies.

How does it CVM work? Think of CVM as a large computer system that can mimic a home answering machine for thousands of people. Within minutes on a touch - tone phone, individuals all over a community have a typical phone number, complete with their personal greeting and a private pass code to retrieve messages.
