A road to self sufficiency

Transitional Housing

Families in Transition (FIT) Program, provided transitional housing and support services to homeless families and physically disabled persons in 34 total housing units (26 leased and 8 owned). In West Philadelphia, FIT fills a unique niche in the City's homeless service sector by accommodating the special needs of large families in poverty.

Provided individualized case management, parenting training, youth development services
Assisted families to maintain stability, accumulate savings, and develop skills for independent living

Served 60 families, 223 people, which included 74 adults and 149 children

During the past year, 27 of the 35 families that finish the program, successfully transitioned to stable housing such as PHA, Section 8, or private dwellings

TAP initiated an in-house program of permanent housing for homeless families. By June 2004, TAP provided 7 total units for permanent housing: 5 TAP leased units were for Section 8 housing, 1 TAP
leased unit was for private rental, and 1 TAP owned unit was for private rental.
